Hi friends and readers! Welcome to this almost-May edition of NicNews. Can you believe The Gay Best Friend comes out in just under a month? ME NEITHER.
NEIBA was a delight
I had the honor of presenting my book at the New England Independent Booksellers Association’s annual Spring Forum earlier this month, and it was a true dream. Even if I did completely improvise my ten-minute speech, because for some reason I wasn’t sure if pre-writing it would be allowed. Which I now realize was a ridiculous thing to be unsure about. It kinda reminds me of this one time at brunch when I participated in a race to see who could drink a mimosa the fastest, and for some reason I assumed the rule was that we had to drink at our natural drinking pace, and so I just took a dainty little sip while everyone else started feverishly chugging. ANYWAY. Here are some grainy pics from the event!
I have a local book launch coming up!
For those of you in the Saratoga/Capital NY region, I’m so excited to share I’ll be launching The Gay Best Friend with my OWN gay best friend (lol) Steven Salvatore, who will be launching his latest (incredible) novel No Perfect Places, which comes out the same day as mine! This will be an event to remember as Steven and I have been critique partners for a decade and know each other’s work so deeply that we will truly have endless things to talk about.
The event is free and open to the public and will take place IN-PERSON on Wednesday 5/31 at Northshire Bookstore in Saratoga Springs, NY at 6:00 p.m. — full details can be found here and I hope to see you there!!!
other upcoming events
My summer event schedule is still in progress, but I wanted to share some other upcoming events in case you or anyone you know happens to be in the area! For my Connecticut friends/family/readers, my publicist is working on setting up a local event (possibly in Mystic WHERE THE BOOK TAKES PLACE) and I’ll share details on that as soon as they’re available.
Sat 5/20 from 10am - 3pm: Romancing New England Rom-Con at Ashland Public Library in Ashland, MA. Details can be found here!
Thurs 6/8 at 6pm: Panel discussion at Northshire Bookstore in Saratoga Springs, NY. Details coming soon!
Wed 6/28 at 8:30pm (ET): Virtual event (Zoom) with Adventures By The Book - details here!
Wed 8/16: In-person panel at The Strand in NYC. More details coming soon!
lastly… a STAR from Library Journal!!!
The trade review gods have been so good to me this past week! First, I got a glowing review from Booklist:
With a sharp and occasionally salacious sense of wit and an eclectically engaging cast of supporting characters, DiDomizio (Burn It All Down, 2021) relays the realistically messy road many of us travel to reach a happily-ever-after while at the same time underscoring the true value of living life authentically.
And THEN a starred (!!!) review from Library Journal:
Chock-full of comedic mishaps, sarcastic banter, and a not-so-pretty but very realistic journey of self-discovery, this second novel from DiDomizio (Burn It All Down) is impossible to put down… VERDICT: Sure to have readers laughing, crying, and cheering on the protagonist to the very last page.
I KNOW, RIGHT?
My (very lovingly patient) partner Graig can tell you that my history with trade publications is a whole-ass seven-layer dip of angst and disappointment (one publication in particular just hates me for some reason BUT GOD BLESS THEM AND EVERYONE), so I am extremely grateful to the reviewers who truly understand and appreciate my work. My #1 goal is always simply to give readers a fun time!
preorder links again!!!
Northshire Bookstore (my local indie — ask for a signed/personalized copy in the order comments!)
That’s all for now! I’ll surely send more updates in the coming weeks as they become available. As always, thank you for reading and subscribing. I appreciate every bit of support so very much and can’t wait to share The Gay Best Friend with you in just over a month!
